3 Years Later; A Perspective of the Telecom Industry

Thompson is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of CapRock Communication, a regional integrated communications company. CapRock offers local, long distance, Internet, DSL, data and private line services to business customers as well as long distance, bandwidth and dark fiber to carrier customers. CapRock is constructing the most extensive and advanced fiber network in the Southwestern United States, a 7,500 mile network connecting nearly every primary, secondary and tertiary market in Texas, Louisianna, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona.

Thompson founded and became President of CapRock Fiber Network in July 1992 and President of CapRock Telecommunications in April 1994. CapRock Telecommunications was named the fastest growing company in Dallas in 1996 and placed in the top 5 in 1997 and 1998. In 1998, CapRock also placed 12th in the Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing private companies in the U.S. CapRock Fiber and CapRock Telecommunications merged with a third company and became publicly traded in August 1998. CapRock generated $193 million in revenues in 1999.

Prior to founding CapRock and entering telecommunications, Thompson worked at a family investment company, Trammel Crow Community Development Company and in the investment banking division of Goldman, Sachs & Co.

Since 1989, Thompson has served as a director, and since 1995 as Chairman of the North Texas Tollway Authority and its predecessor, the Texas Turnpike Authority. Thompson is a board member of Cistercian Preparatory School, sits on the University of Texas Dallas Leadership Council and is a member of the Dallas Assembly, YPO, Southwestern Medical Foundation Board and St. Rita Catholic Church. Thompson is a former mentor and board member of the I Have a Dream Foundation.

A Fourth generation resident of Dallas, Thompson graduated from Cistercian Preparatory School in Irving in 1974, obtained a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University in 1978 and an MBA from the University of Texas in 1982.

He and his wife, Carolyn, have been married 13 years and have five children.
