|
James Von Ehr II is the founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Zyvex Corporation. Located in Richardson, Texas, Zyvex is the first molecular nanotechnology development company. Zyvex's mission is to be the industry leader in adaptable, affordable, molecularly precise manufacturing. Zyvex is taking an assembly-based systems approach to integrating macro, micro, and nano devices to the real world.
Von Ehr is the co-founder of the Texas Nanotechnology Initiative, a non profit organization dedicated to establishing Texas as a world leader in the discoveries, development, and commercialization of nanotechnology. He is personally contributing $2.5 million to the University of Texas at Dallas to set up their Nanotech Center. He is a co-founder of the Feynman Grand Prize, a $250,000 prize for a particular embodiment of nanotechnology.
Von Ehr recently endowed the James R. Von Ehr distinguished Chair of Science and Technology for UTD's Professor of Physics and Chemistry, Alan MacDiarmid, Ph.D. Dr. MacDiarmid is the 2000 Nobel Laureate in Physics and head of UTD's Nanotechnology Research Center. Von Ehr is also a consulting professor at Nanjing University; an advisory professor at Fudan University; and guest professor of physics at Jilin University... all of which are in China.
Before founding Zyvex in 1997, Von Ehr was the founder, president, chairman and CEO of Altsys Corporation. Von Ehr's team spent ten years developing several major software products, including FreeHand and Fontographer, the first commercially available PostScript drawing program. The products achieved total worldwide sales of over $100M. Altsys was sold to Macromedia in 1995, and Von Ehr took a seat on the Macromedia Board of Directors for nearly four years.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Nanotechnology Initiative, the North Texas Technology Council, the NanoBusiness Alliance, and the Metroplex Technology Business Council. Von Ehr has a M.S. in Mathematical Science from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Michigan State University. |
