“Who Will Work for You Tomorrow?”

The is the second of a 2 part Educational Series
Slide Presentation

The United States has entered what could reasonably be termed the perfect storm of a failed public education system, diminishing workforce, and increasing global competition.  This does not bode well for US businesses.  Last month, Dr. Cox shared with us some interesting information regarding our education system and its overall effect on the economy.  This month’s session will expand this discussion and address issues that are critical to each and every business owner and employer – will there be qualified workers available to your business tomorrow – and can you get them to work for you?  Based on reliable research and data from numerous sources, this presentation presents the challenges facing the present and the future of our businesses  as well as our economy.

Karen has over 20 years experience as an integral part of the growth and success of start up companies as well as large, international concerns.  As a consultant, Karen works closely with clients to determine the best means of achieving the highest levels of performance for their organization, and developing competent, committed employees, with the goal of creating “best places to work”.  She also serves as project manager for the design and development of interventions to resolve performance gaps.  She has directed HR functions, customer support areas, career management, survey design and analysis, as well as training and development/performance support departments.  Karen is Principal at The Hopkins Group, providing Human Resources Strategic Solutions to small and medium sized businesses in industries ranging from healthcare, manufacturing, service industries, high tech, hospitality, and others .

As an adjunct faculty member at the University of Texas at Dallas Graduate School of Management, and Brookhaven College, Karen has been instrumental in bringing the Human Performance Technology certificate program to the Southwest.  Karen’s work, including original research, has been published in professional journals. She has also presented a variety of management, leadership, team building, career management, and strategic planning programs at IQPC, ASTD International, American Society for Healthcare Human Resources, SHRM, and the local ASTD Chapter.  She is a long term, active member of ASTD, serving on the Board of Directors for 8 years, and as president. Additionally, she is a key player in the planning of HRSouthwest Conference and Exposition held annually in Ft. Worth, TX.  Karen also holds membership in ISPI, ASCP, and Alpha Eta Honor Society.  She has a Masters’ Degree in Organizational Development from UT Dallas, is a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and is listed in Who’s Who in the Southwest and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
