Lisa
Bormaster was appointed
Publisher of the Dallas
Business Journal in
November, 2007. She comes to
Dallas most recently from
Minneapolis, where she served as
President and Publisher of the
Minneapolis/St Paul
Business Journal for the
past decade.
Lisa has a long history of
board and community service,
holding board seats and serving
as chair of the boards for
several organizations in each
community where she has lived
and worked. Lisa was elected
Chair of the Board of the
Minneapolis Regional Chamber of
Commerce in 2003, the second
woman to hold that position in
its 125-year history.
Current she serves on the
boards of the United Way of
Metropolitan Dallas and Junior
Achievement of Dallas.
Lisa served as a founding
member on the steering group of
the Itasca Project, a
civic-minded group of the CEOs
of Minnesota’s largest employers
formed in 2003. She was also a
founding member of the
Minneapolis/St Paul United Way
Women’s Leadership Council.
Past board seats include
several chambers of commerce in
several cities; the Austin
Quality Council; and the Texas
Asian Chamber of Commerce.
The
Dallas Business Journal has
launched several editorial
projects and signature events in
this year, the first year of
Lisa’s tenure. The Minority
Business Leader Awards, where
minority business owners and
leaders were honored this June,
was a sell-out. The Women in
Business Awards luncheon hosted
nearly 1,000 in July and honored
women business owners and
executives. The CFO of the Year
Awards will take place this
October.
Lisa was honored as “Woman of
the Year” in 2005 by the
Minneapolis Regional Chamber of
Commerce. In 1997, while serving
as publisher of the Austin
Business Journal, the Austin
Advertising Society recognized
her with the "Woman of the Year"
award.
Lisa graduated summa cum laude
from Arizona State University
with a BS in business
administration.

Lisa
Bormaster began her career with
Independent Newspapers, Inc.,
a Phoenix newspaper group, where
over the course of eight years
she excelled in various
positions including Director of
Sales & Marketing and,
ultimately, as Publisher.
In
1991, Lisa joined Arizona
Republic’s Arizona
Business Gazette as
Advertising Manager. She was
soon offered the opportunity to
join American City Business
Journals, the parent company
of Dallas Business Journal,
as Advertising Director at the
Washington (D.C.) Business
Journal, where she remained
through 1994.
Lisa was named Publisher of the
Austin Business Journal
in 1995. She headed that
publication until 1997. In
Austin, Lisa served on the Board
of Directors for eight area
organizations and was chair of
the board for two of them. She
was on the executive board of
the Greater Austin Chamber of
Commerce, a 5000-member
chamber. Lisa was on the
executive board of the Austin
area United Way, chaired the
board development committee, and
served on the marketing
committee.
Lisa was chair of the Austin
Quality Council board, and
served as observer during the
annual Quality Award process
based on the ISO 9000
guidelines. She was also chair
of the Austin Junior Achievement
board, and served on the
executive board of the Better
Business Bureau, the board of
the Texas Asian Chamber of
Commerce, and the advisory board
for the College of Engineering
of the University of Texas.
She was a member of Austin’s
downtown Rotary International
Chapter.
Lisa relocated to the Twin
Cities at the end of 1997 where
she served as president and
publisher of the
Minneapolis/St Paul
Business Journal for the
past ten years. Lisa is past
Chair of the Board of the
Minneapolis Regional Chamber of
Commerce. Her additional board
seats in Minneapolis were:
Junior Achievement; the Courage
Center Board of Trustees; and
the Better Business Bureau.
