Barry D. Nalls’ has established a reputation for leadership and innovation in industry through a passion for excellence and attention to the human factor in business and technology. In more than 30 years in the telecom industry, Nalls has helped design, develop, manage and market complex communications networks and services for the public switched networks, Internet service providers and private data networks that paved the way for the advanced business networks supporting and driving today’s global economy.

In 2007 Nalls founded VYBRANZ, a company assisting businesses to significantly lower costs in areas such as Energy, IT, Telecom, HR, Customer Care, and Administration.  His team of highly trained experts joins with valuable partners and advanced technology to work closely with management to change the cost structure without impacting customers and employees.

He also started MASERGY in 2000, Nalls recognized that the same technology available to service providers could also be used by enterprise customers to make service provisioning easy and immediate. As a result, MASERGY pioneered the market for customer-controlled intelligent networks and global Ethernet service for voice, video and data.

Under Nalls’ leadership, MASERGY grew its customer base to more than 400 enterprises in 50 states and 40 countries worldwide and has achieved average quarterly revenue of 30 percent for 18 consecutive quarters and EBITDA-positive performance since 2006.  In 2007, prior to stepping down as the CEO, the Company reached a run-rate revenue of $100M annually and reached positive net income and positive cash flow. Confirming that success is driven by creating the strongest customer experience in the industry, he has consistently focused the company’s technology, processes and people on defining customer needs and exceeding customer expectations.

His leadership and dedication to MASERGY has garnered recognition within the Texas technology community as well as in the national business sector for its success in a competitive telecom service sector. As the Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” in Technology for the Southwest Area-North, Nalls represented North Texas at the national award celebration in Palm Springs in 2007.  MASERGY joined the “Inc. 500” and the Deloitte “Technology Fast 500” in 2007 for its impressive financial and technology performance. Nalls is working closely with Harvard Business School to prepare a case study based on his entrepreneurial endeavors. His career will be used as a study for new MBA students to be debuted in the 2009 curriculum.

During his career, Nalls has spoken at investor and industry events to foster an open and ongoing dialogue of technology issues and challenges within the industry, including Comdex, Interop, CIO Enterprise Value, Polycom User Group, SuperComm, Telepresence World and VoiceCon.

Throughout his career Nalls fostered a corporate culture that encourages employee empowerment through initiatives like monthly “Smoke Signal” call, in which employees worldwide interact with Nalls and other executives via video conference to raise issues and receive updates on company challenges and successes. He also gathers his team frequently to build trust, foster pride and strengthen teamwork through company training programs and executive retreats that reinforce discussions and planning with indoor and outdoor physical team challenges.

Because benefiting the local community is a professional and personal priority for Nalls, he created Global Volunteer Day for employees to spend company time in joint civic volunteer programs. The Dallas location has made an annual event of helping renovate the Denton State School each holiday season. Nalls serves on the board of advisors for the Global Nomads, a non-profit organization dedicated to heightening children's understanding and appreciation for the world and its people. And in 2007, Nalls raised more than $70K along with 5 other climbers at the 19,340-foot summit of Mount Kilimanjaro during the annual “Climb for Sight” expedition, sponsored by the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity of Pennsylvania, to reduce avoidable blindness by empowering, training and equipping eye care doctors for pediatric sight-saving surgeries in Guatemala.

Prior to starting VYBRANZ, Nalls founded and was the CEO of Masergy. He also held senior management positions in sales and marketing at Epoch Internet and GTE. Among his accomplishments are creating the Telecom industry’s first DSL proof of concept trial, building and managing the business product suite for GTE’s national Competitive Local Exchange Carrier, and managing the first business long distance program for a major ILEC.  Nalls holds a master of business administration from Southern Methodist University and sits on the boards of Volunteer Services Council of the Denton State School and Global Nomads Organizations.
